Position purpose:
The Manager, Outreach Office provides strategic & operational leadership and support for the design, implementation, ongoing administration and evaluation of the Faculty of Engineering Outreach Office. Identifies, develops and scales revenue-generating programs and projects that help support faculty strategic goals, such as, fostering interest for engineering in the community, recruiting exceptional students & providing enriching educational experiences to youth, educators and professionals.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
  • Develops the strategic direction, sets objectives and defines approaches and plans for the Faculty of Engineering Outreach Office. Responsibilities include resource planning, goal setting, quality control, and working in close collaboration with the project managers within the office to ensure timely deliverables and effective business strategies.
  • Supervises a team of professionals including IT and educational personnel. Provides direction to staff regarding project planning and management, development methods, design alternatives, and technical options. Fosters a positive work environment and teamwork. Recruits staff, evaluates their performance, ensures adequate personal and professional development, identifies development needs and recommends appropriate training strategies.
  • Develops implementation plans with the objective to pilot and scale revenue-generating initiatives that support faculty strategic goals. Provides guidance to multiple project managers working simultaneously on various IT projects and education programs in engineering & science.
  • Oversees the development of solutions to complex business problems using expert knowledge of technology, business analysis techniques, business process re-engineering, and workflow analysis. Applies the concepts and principles of change management, ensures that appropriate communication strategies are implemented with respect to new projects and business process changes.
  • Oversees the accreditation/certification process for courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering Outreach Office using established standards and requirements outlined by the Ministry of Education, the University of Ottawa and other professional accreditation bodies.
  • Manages the operating budget of the Faculty of Engineering Outreach Office, including the preparation, administration and management of its financial operations. Provides financial advice and is accountable for operational responsibility and signing authority. Ensures that each initiative develops self-sustainability through program fees, sponsorship opportunities and/or donations.
  • Build sound relationships with internal and external partners to create effective partnership opportunities while ensuring effective communication between key stakeholders. Manages issues as they arise. Identifies new business opportunities (via gap analysis) and encourages new partnerships and revenue potential.
